The Keptup Standard

The principles behind how we look after software we didn't write. They apply to every person and every agent working on your app.

01You own everything

Your code, accounts, domains and keys stay in your name. We work with the least access the job needs, and you can remove it whenever you like.

If you leave, you leave with everything: the history, the notes, and a clean handover.

02Do no harm

Every change is small, made on its own branch, and easy to undo. Nothing is tried out on your live users.

After anything ships we check production, and if it disagrees, the change is rolled back.

If a change can’t be undone safely, we ask before making it.

03Security comes first

Known vulnerabilities, leaked credentials and data that the wrong people could see go to the front of the queue, ahead of anything cosmetic.

04Boring beats clever

We keep what works. We don’t rewrite code because we would have written it differently, and we don’t add complexity you didn’t ask for.

05Tested like a user, with people on the risky ones

We learn how people actually use your app and test every change against those journeys before it ships.

Routine updates that pass everything go out on their own, unless you’d rather they didn’t. Big upgrades, and anything that needed code changes, wait for a person.

06Plain English

Every change comes with a short explanation written for a founder, not an engineer: what changed, why it matters, and anything to keep an eye on.

07Everything written down

What we found, what we changed and why, all visible in your dashboard. No black boxes.

08Honest about trade-offs

Some updates are easy, some are risky, and some aren’t worth doing yet. We tell you which is which, and we flag bad news early rather than late.
